The Hatha Pradipika, a 14th century yoga text, lists the six things that give success, and the six things that cause failure, in yoga… having a stiff body is not one of them! Having a good back bend is not one of them! In this lecture we will go over all of the things that lead to success and failure in yoga practice, as well as looking at some similar verses from the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras. These particular things are listed to we have some basic guidelines in yoga, and also to create a feeling of confidence in us - that if we follow certain things, and avoid some other things, we will find mental peace, and inner joy, and most importantly, have a yoga practice that leads us towards happiness.

This class will include the lecture, chanting, and meditation.

SUNDAY July 1st

7:00 – 10:00 / Mysore Practice*
16:00 – 18:00 /  Lecture “Ritual as Life, Life as Ritual”
Throughout the day we do many things out of habit; how we get up in the morning, brush our teeth, make tea or coffee, how we greet people, and how we prepare ourselves for important events. But all of these things are really rituals we perform to ready ourselves. The question is, what is it that we are readying ourselves for? A habit is a ritual performed without attention or awareness; when we perform a habitual act with awareness, or with love, we enter into the state of being present and engaged with that act. Ritual moves us towards the sacred, allows us to enter into a relationship with the unknown, to enter into, and engage with, the great mystery of life. In this talk, we’ll discuss ritual in regards to sanctifying our everyday life, and how to perform simple rituals that can heighten our appreciation of the seemingly mundane world, so that our everyday acts are perfumed with love, thoughtfulness, and the sacred.

This class will include the lecture, chanting, and meditation.
